After more than two decades of music, ministry and perseverance, Sensere is now an official Stellar Award-winning group. The 11-member Gospel soul collective celebrated a career-defining weekend at the 41st Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards in Charlotte, North Carolina, taking home their first-ever Stellar Award for Contemporary Album of the Year for their critically acclaimed project, FRED HAMMOND PRESENTS: THE SOUL OF FUTURE WORSHIP Vol. 2.
The win, presented during the Stellar Awards pre-show, was especially meaningful for Sensere, marking both the group’s first official Stellar Award nomination and first win in their 20-plus-year music career. The victory also represents a special moment for South Florida Gospel music. Sensere becomes the first act from the region to bring home a Stellar Award since Marc Cooper & The Miami Mass Choir won Choir of the Year in 1998.
For Sensere founder, producer, and lead guitarist James “Jdubb” Wright, the award represents far more than a trophy.
“After all these years, the prayers, sacrifices, disappointments, long nights, and moments when we had every reason to give up, God allowed us to see this day,” Wright states. “Every time I look at this award, I’m reminded that the journey was worth it.”
The celebration didn’t stop with the win. Sensere also reached another longtime career goal by performing on the Stellar Awards stage for the first time, delivering their No. 1 Gospel radio hit, “That’s God…Lalala,” during the pre-show telecast. The fan favorite continues to generate streams and remains in regular rotation on Gospel radio across the country.
For lead vocalist and longtime Sensere member Brian Williams, stepping onto the Stellar stage was a moment years in the making.
Williams says, “We’ve wanted to perform on the Stellar Awards for years. As a Gospel artist, it’s one of the biggest honors to be invited to that stage. When we found out we were performing during the pre-show, it honestly felt like a dream come true. The love and support we received was overwhelming, and we’re incredibly grateful.”
The 41st Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards will air on The Stellar Network on Saturday, August 29 at 8:00 p.m. EST and at 10 p.m. EST (check your local provider for channel availability). The show will air on BET Network on Sunday, August 30, at 8:00 p.m. EST and 10:30 p.m. EST, and in syndication from September 5 through September 27. With this Stellar Award win, Sensere shows no signs of slowing down. Following the success of “That’s God…Lalala,” the group’s second single, “After Tonight,” continues to climb Gospel radio, currently sitting at No. 12 on the charts and closing in on the Top 10. Sensere is also preparing the release of their third single, “God I Love You,” featuring Teddy Riley. The group will carry this momentum into 2027 when they join the Rise and Rhythm Cruise in January alongside a lineup that includes Mary Mary, KEM, Fred Hammond, Darrel Walls and more.
