Casey J Returns with New Music After Six Years
The Stories We Sing Vol. 1 Marks a Fresh Chapter of Faith-Filled Worship
After a six-year break from releasing albums, acclaimed recording artist and worship leader Casey J is back with a powerful new project. Her latest release, The Stories We Sing Vol. 1 (Casey J LLC / Tyscot), is a five-song collection filled with energetic, guitar-driven expressions of faith and worship. The project was produced by Grammy Award winner Aaron Lindsey, known for his work with gospel greats such as Marvin Sapp and Israel Houghton. The album is now available on all digital streaming platforms.
For Casey J, the inspiration behind the album title is deeply rooted in the power of storytelling through faith. She explains that many of the lessons she learned about God came through the stories of scripture. While she may have heard them as a child, their meaning became more profound as she grew older.
“The stories in the Bible remind us that the people we read about were real people,” Casey J says. “When our lives are surrendered to God, they can carry the same kind of impact. Our stories can reflect His glory and His nature. Ideally, we learn from the stories in scripture so we can live lives that resemble Him, and in turn, our own stories can inspire others to do the same.”
This project also represents a new creative experience for the Atlanta-based singer. Unlike many of her earlier hits, which were recorded live in concert settings, The Stories We Sing Vol. 1 is her first full studio project.
“It gave me a chance to be more creative,” she explains. “With live recordings, there’s often pressure to capture and serve the moment. With this project, I had time to really think about what I wanted to express and capture musically.”
The album also reflects one of her most involved songwriting efforts to date, with Casey J contributing to every song on the project. Writing alongside close friends made the process even more meaningful. She also had the opportunity to co-produce the project with Aaron Lindsey, whose work she has admired for years.
Musically, the album blends praise and worship with a vibrant mix of Christian pop, world-beat rhythms, and arena-style worship. Songs such as “Rest in Me,” “One Day,” and the Billboard Gospel Airplay Top 15 single “Song of My Life” deliver big, atmospheric moments of praise. The final tracks take a more intimate turn, with songs like “Come Take a Seat” and “Return,” where Casey J sings from the perspective of God inviting His children back into His presence. Her powerful soprano voice moves effortlessly across the melodies, drawing listeners into a deeply engaging worship experience.
Over the past decade, Casey J has carved out a unique lane in gospel music. Her style blends traditional Americana sounds with Pentecostal worship influences, creating a signature sound that has resonated with audiences around the world. Her music has amassed more than 180 million digital streams and earned her two Billboard Gospel Airplay No. 1 hits.
Her breakout song “Fill Me Up” topped the chart for 14 weeks in 2014 and remained on the chart for 51 weeks. Another hit, “I’m Yours,” held the No. 1 spot for five weeks and stayed on the chart for 44 weeks. Her 2018 album The Gathering also produced the Top Ten gospel single “If God/Nothing But the Blood.” Her newest album continues that momentum with the success of “Song of My Life.”
With the project now released, Casey J is reflecting on what the future may hold.
“People always ask where you see yourself in ten years,” she says. “But honestly, where I am today isn’t where I thought I’d be ten years ago.”
For her, the focus is simple.
“My greatest hope is that I’m always in the middle of a ‘yes’ to God,” she says. “That’s really the best thing I can offer. I’m learning to say yes to God as quickly and as often as possible. Whether that leads me to a global platform or something more local, whether people see it or not, it doesn’t matter. As long as my life and career are centered around saying yes to God, that’s enough for me.”
