Stellar Award-winning Gospel Quartet group Men of Prayze is back with a powerful new single, “Leave Me Alone,” following the success of their award-winning album LIVE: IN THE RED.

Known for their commanding stage presence, traditional Gospel roots, and contemporary Quartet sound, Men of Prayze continues to help push the genre forward while honoring the foundation that shaped it. The group was named Artist of the Year at the 2022 Quartet Music Awards and earned the 2025 Stellar Gospel Music Award for Quartet of the Year for LIVE: IN THE RED.

Central City Productions has announced the nominees for the 41st Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards, returning to Charlotte, North Carolina, for another celebration of gospel music excellence.

Known as the “Greatest Night in Gospel Music,” the 41st Stellar Awards will be taped live on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte. This year’s show will be hosted by 45-time Stellar Award winner and 20-time GRAMMY Award winner Kirk Franklin.

Presented under the theme “Feels Like Home,” the celebration will feature powerful performances, special honors, tributes, and unforgettable moments recognizing both gospel legends and rising voices.

John P. Kee and Kim Person lead this year’s nominations with seven each. Tasha Cobbs Leonard and JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise follow with six nominations each, while Jekalyn Carr, Lisa Knowles Smith & The Brown Singers, and Vincent Bohanan & SOV each earned five nominations.

The 2026 nominees span 31 categories, along with six Gospel Radio categories, honoring artists, writers, musicians, producers, radio personalities, and industry leaders shaping the sound and impact of gospel music.

The Stellar Awards Pre-Show and Gospel Radio Awards will take place Friday, August 14, at the Carolina Theatre in Charlotte, with the STELLAR PLUS EXPERIENCE running August 12–15 and featuring master classes, unplugged performances, a songwriters symposium, comedy experience, vendor marketplace, and more.

The 41st Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards will continue the legacy of honoring the artists, choirs, creatives, and radio professionals who help advance gospel music across generations.

What began as a spring concert became something far greater: a full-circle celebration of faith, legacy, worship, and the anointing that has shaped Pastor Donnie McClurkin’s more than four decades in Gospel music.

On Saturday evening, Perfecting Faith Church hosted a powerful night of worship that left hearts stirred and spirits lifted. By the end of the evening, McClurkin made a major announcement: his final recording project, FINALLY, released through CamDon Music, is set to arrive this summer.

“FINALLY marks the end of my recording career,” said McClurkin. “It’s not just a dramatic title; it’s a testimony of the end of my commercial side of music. Every song represents such an inspiration that is felt in the creative expression of each song, uniquely. I want to leave something that will outlast me. Something that will still be ministering long after my life is done. This is my offering to God and people.”

The evening opened with Carpenters United, a family of five from Queens, New York, whose passion for music and ministry was evident from the first note. Their reggae-inspired selection “Come Fill This Place” set a joyful tone of expectation before they closed their set with the melodic “You Reminded Me.”

One of the night’s most emotional highlights was the reunion of former members of The New York Restoration Choir, founded by Pastor McClurkin. The choir holds a special place in McClurkin’s musical journey, as his first recording was made with the ensemble on Savoy Records, the legendary Gospel label led by Pastor Milton Biggham.

Under McClurkin’s direction, the choir delivered a four-song set that included “We Worship You,” “Nobody But You,” “Lamb of God,” and “What A Love,” led by Andrea McClurkin-Mellini. For longtime supporters of the choir, the moment felt like a true homecoming.

Serving as both host and narrator, Pastor McClurkin guided the audience through a musical journey honoring the history of Gospel music. He paid tribute to some of the genre’s most influential voices, including Edwin Hawkins, Walter Hawkins, Andraé Crouch, and Richard Smallwood.

Beloved classics filled the sanctuary, including Edwin Hawkins’ “Oh Happy Day,” Andraé Crouch’s “My Tribute (To God Be the Glory),” Richard Smallwood’s “Total Praise,” and Bishop Walter Hawkins’ “Changed.”

When McClurkin took the stage alongside the singers and musicians who have traveled the world with him in ministry, the atmosphere shifted. Their reunion was more than musical; it was spiritual, reflective, and deeply moving.

“What A Mighty God” shook the room with praise. “I Will Bless Your Holy Name” brought many to tears. “Solid Rock” blended the timeless hymn with a fresh, rhythmic approach, while the “Holy” medley, featuring songs from McClurkin’s Grammy Award-winning album Again, lifted the night into an even deeper worship experience.

McClurkin closed the evening with his Billboard chart-topping single “Better Afterwhile,” offering words of encouragement that brought the audience to its feet. It was the kind of ending that lingered long after the final note.

While FINALLY marks McClurkin’s last recording project, his ministry is far from over. The official release date for the project is expected to be announced in 2026. McClurkin will continue to make special live appearances and tour, reaching audiences through multiple platforms and ministry opportunities.

Veteran Gospel artist Deitrick Haddon and his Voices of Unity choir received three nominations for ChainBreaker 2.5, released through ManHaddon Ministries / Tyscot. The album celebrates the 25th anniversary of their groundbreaking Chain Breaker project, originally released in 2000. Among the nominations is Music Video of the Year for the acoustic and uplifting track “Find Jesus.”

Choirmaster and songwriter Jason Clayborn also earned recognition for “Whatever It Is,” his collaboration with Grammy®-nominated vocalist Melvin Crispell III. The song received nominations in both Duo/Chorus Group of the Year and Contemporary Duo/Chorus Group of the Year categories.

Tyscot’s celebration continues with its recent signing of Baltimore, Maryland-based Brandon Camphor’s TOMii Entertainment production company to a recording agreement. Camphor’s group, Brandon Camphor & One Way, who won their first Stellar Award last year, is nominated for Traditional Duo/Chorus Gospel Album of the Year for their soul-stirring track “In Christ Alone.”

Theresa Grayson is a Texas-born saxophonist and vocalist who blends contemporary Jazz with global and Gospel influences. Gospel music powerhouse Kelontae Gavin is experiencing a major moment. The dynamic young vocalist has captured the attention of millions after an impromptu live performance of the classic quartet song “At the Meeting” unexpectedly went viral, generating more than 110 million views on TikTok over the past few months.

The overwhelming response from fans inspired Gavin and producer Desmin Gore to move quickly. Together, they went into the studio to create an official studio version of “At the Meeting,” released through Kelontae Gavin Enterprise, Inc. in partnership with Tyscot Records. “At the Meeting” carries deep traditional gospel roots, with variations of the song performed by quartet groups such as The Sensational Nightingales dating back to the 1960s. For Gavin, the moment that sparked the viral wave was completely organic.

“I had just ministered and said something like, ‘I done talked too long,’” Gavin recalled. “Then, I remembered this old quartet song I heard in Charleston and I started singing it.”

Fans quickly began sharing clips of the performance across social media, and the sound took on a life of its own. Many used the snippet while showing off their Sunday church attire, helping the song become a cultural and gospel moment online.

“It’s a low country banger,” Gavin said with excitement. “People were getting dressed for church and started using the snippet that I sang live to show what they were wearing that day. I’m excited that this is the first traditional sounding single I’ve ever put out because it’s my roots and it’s my home. I’m excited about introducing this type of music into the airwaves, especially since I’m known for contemporary gospel.”

The release also marks Gavin’s return to Tyscot Records, the label where his recording career first began in 2016. As a teenager, Gavin quickly became one of gospel music’s most talked-about young voices, known for his powerful range, vocal agility, and passionate delivery. Songs such as “No Ordinary Worship” and his rendition of Rev. James Cleveland’s “Peace Be Still” helped establish him as a standout voice in the genre, earning millions of streams and a loyal fan base.

A powerful move of God is coming to Houston as the Push Back Pentecost Encounter prepares to gather believers for a three-day revival experience from May 21–23, 2026, at New Light Church, located at 1535 Greensmark Drive, Houston, TX 77067.

The multi-day gathering will be hosted by internationally renowned prophetess, Platinum Gospel recording artist, and New York Times bestselling author Dr. Juanita Bynum, along with acclaimed worship leader Lizzie Morgan and other guest ministers, worship leaders, and musicians.

Hannah Harper closed the night with Chris Tomlin’s “At The Cross (Love Ran Red),” a worship standard that sits inside the songbook of nearly every modern CCM-leaning congregation in the country.

Three finalists. Three different lanes of the same Kingdom. One stage that ABC sells to advertisers as the most-watched live music competition in the country.

Chris Tomlin’s invitation was the real news

After Harper’s performance, Chris Tomlin posted a public welcome on Instagram, extending what amounted to an open door from the Christian music community to all three finalists.

That kind of public gesture from an artist of Tomlin’s standing is not a fan post. It is a signal. The CCM and gospel industry has historically struggled to convert mainstream-exposed talent into long-term commercial careers inside the genre. Tomlin’s move is the polite version of saying the welcome mat is out, the publishing meetings can happen, the festival slots can be discussed, and the worship rooms can be opened.

The question is whether the rest of the industry meets him at the door.

What this means for the trade

A few things worth tracking from here.

Catalog publishers should already be looking at the streaming and on-demand bumps on these three songs in the 72 hours after broadcast. Idol covers historically move catalog. Smokie Norful, Richard Smallwood, and Chris Tomlin’s publishers are owed a fresh look at sync potential, since network television just demonstrated the song selection logic for them.

A&R departments at the major faith-based labels now have three pre-vetted, network-developed vocalists with built-in audiences and public faith narratives. The development cost has effectively been absorbed by ABC. The opportunity cost of not engaging is being measured in the careers of contestants from earlier Idol seasons who walked the same path and were never properly onboarded into the industry.

Booking agents, festival promoters, and church conference programmers have a 90-day window where these three names carry the most heat they will ever carry as unsigned talent. That window closes faster than most people in the industry assume.

And for the Black gospel side of the house specifically, Keyla Richardson’s and Jordan McCullough’s selections matter. The Whitney record and the Smokie record are not generic faith songs. They are genre statements. Whoever is moving first on those two has a real opportunity.

The bigger pattern

Idol pointing toward Jesus is not new. What is new is three of three finalists using their final, highest-stakes performances to do it, and a CCM heavyweight publicly opening the door before the confetti hits the floor.

The gospel music industry has spent years asking how to break out of its own audience. This week, the front door opened from the other side.

Whether anyone walks through it is the only question that matters now.

Marcus McFarlin, also known as “Elder Mac,” is a preacher, vocalist, musician, producer, actor, and award-winning Gospel recording artist known for his energetic worship style.
